How to Prepare for Your MRI

Follow these simple steps before coming for your scan so everything goes smoothly.

1

Metal Safety Check

MRI uses a very strong magnet. If you have a pacemaker, metal plates, screws, cochlear implant, or any metal inside your body, you must tell us before the scan. These can be dangerous inside the MRI room.

2

Fasting Rules

For spine, brain, or joint MRI — no fasting needed, eat normally. For tummy (abdomen) or contrast MRI — do not eat or drink anything for 4 to 6 hours before the scan.

3

Kidney Test (KFT / Creatinine)

If your doctor asked for contrast MRI (CEMRI), bring a recent Kidney Function Test report — not more than 15 days old. This makes sure the contrast dye is safe for your kidneys.

4

What to Wear

Wear simple cotton clothes without metal buttons, zips, or hooks. Remove all jewellery, watches, hairpins, spectacles, and coins before entering the scan room. We provide safe lockers.

Why 3 Tesla MRI Is Better

Our 3T scanner runs at double the magnetic power of standard hospital MRI machines.

Sharper, Clearer Pictures

Double magnetic power means the images show even the smallest problems — tiny nerve damage, early tumours, or small cracks in cartilage that a regular MRI might miss.

Scan Finishes Faster

The strong magnet captures images much quicker. A scan that takes 45 minutes on a regular machine finishes in about 25-30 minutes on our 3T scanner.

Comfortable Wide Opening

The 70cm wide bore is much more open than standard MRI tunnels. Good for patients who feel scared of closed spaces, and supports heavier patients comfortably.

Common Questions About MRI

Answers patients in Ranchi ask us most often.

I have metal rods or screws from an old surgery. Can I still get an MRI?
It depends on the type of metal. Titanium rods and screws are usually safe. But pacemakers, cochlear implants, and older metal clips can be dangerous. Always tell our team about any past surgery or metal in your body — we will check and guide you.
What is the difference between 1.5T and 3T MRI?
The number (1.5T or 3T) tells how strong the magnet is. Our 3T machine has double the power of a 1.5T machine. This means pictures come out much sharper, scans finish quicker, and doctors can spot smaller problems that a weaker machine might miss.
What is contrast MRI and when is it needed?
In a contrast MRI, a safe liquid called gadolinium is injected into your vein through a small needle. This liquid makes blood vessels, tumours, and infections glow brightly in the scan pictures. Your doctor will ask for it when they need extra detail — usually for brain, spine, or cancer-related scans.
Is MRI safe? Does it have radiation?
MRI is one of the safest scans available. It uses magnets and radio waves — there is zero radiation. It is safe for children, adults, and can be repeated as many times as your doctor needs.
How long does an MRI scan take?
Most MRI scans take 20 to 40 minutes on our 3T machine. If contrast dye is needed, it may take a bit longer. During the scan you just need to lie still — our technicians will talk to you through a speaker the whole time.

Complete Guide: MRI Scan in Ranchi

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a scanning technology that uses a strong magnet and radio waves to take very clear pictures of the inside of your body — without any radiation. It is the best test for looking at soft parts like the brain, spinal cord, muscles, ligaments, and internal organs. At MRI Ranchi, our 3 Tesla scanner gives you the highest quality images available in the Ranchi region.

🧠 Brain & Nerve Imaging

Best for checking stroke risk, long-lasting headaches, memory problems, brain tumours, and nerve diseases. The 3T power gives extremely clear brain pictures.

🦴 Joints & Sports Injuries

The top choice for knee ligament tears (ACL/PCL), shoulder injuries, cartilage damage, and bone swelling. Helps your ortho doctor plan the right treatment.

Doctors usually recommend an MRI when they need to check for slip disc, brain problems, joint injuries, tumours, or nerve damage. Because there is no radiation, it is perfectly safe to get multiple MRI scans if your doctor needs to track your treatment progress. For pregnancy or organ checks without any radiation, we also offer Ultrasound scan services.

The most common MRI scans we do in Ranchi are Brain MRI (for headaches), Spine MRI (for back pain and disc problems), Knee MRI (for ligament injuries), and Abdomen MRI (for liver, kidney checks). Each scan is reviewed by our senior radiologist and the digital report is shared on WhatsApp within 4 to 6 hours. For quick bone checks or emergency scans, a 128-slice CT scan is also available.

Same-Day Digital Reports

Our senior radiologists carefully check every MRI scan and prepare a detailed report within 4 to 6 hours. You will get the digital PDF report on WhatsApp and email. You can also pick up printed films from our centre.
